Why Paw Cream Is Essential
If you're adventurous and have a dog you have probably heard people talk about paw cream. Paw cream is an essential item to have on hand for dogs especially when tackling a mountain. If it's not something you’re already using, here's some reasons why we think it's important.
1. Smooths your dogs paws
To put it simply Paw Cream is a balm for dogs much like lip balm or hand cream is for humans. When we have dry, cracked lips or hands we reach for creams or balms, but many people don't think to do the same for dogs. They think rough paws are normal for dogs, but they don't have to be! Rubbing Paw Cream on your dog's pads before or after walks, at bed time or any time really can greatly improve the smoothness of their pads. Wouldn’t it be nice to not get scratched every time your dog paws at you? We think so!
2. Helps reduce snow clumps
Smoothness is not the only reason to invest in Paw Cream. It can also be very beneficial in winter months to help keep snow from compacting in your dog's paws. We have all experienced our dogs walking and suddenly holding one paw up because it's covered in snow. Paw Cream helps act as a barrier to the snow making it less likely to compact in your dog's paw. That’s a win in our books.
3. Heals paws
If you're a mountain hiker or hike anywhere where the ground is not just grass, Paw Cream will greatly enhance the durability of your dog’s paws. When you are summiting a mountain, scree slopes are very common. These rocks can be difficult for your dogs to navigate but also hard on their paw pads, and even cut them. The healing properties in Paw Cream will help soothe cuts and lessen healing time. We also recommend putting the cream on before hiking as it will help create a barrier for their pads against the scree.
4. Is not just for Paws
Don't be fooled by the name Paw Cream isn't just for paws. Many weather conditions can contribute to your dog having a cracked/dry nose. Strong winds, extreme cold or even very dry climates can cause your dog to develop a dry or cracked nose. Paw Cream is a great option to help soothe it. Place a small amount on your finger and rub it into their snout. Give lots of treats so they don't lick it off too quick!
5. Helps with Calluses
Many older dogs can develop calluses on their elbows (often called pressure sores) due to continual plopping down on the ground. These spots develop to protect the bones that stick out, while they aren't usually an issue for your dog they can become infected. Paw Cream is a great option to help these Calluses not become too dry which will help prevent infections.
How it's made
Our Organic Paw Cream is made by hand, in small batches, right here in Calgary using only the best organic ingredients. We make it with Organic Shea butter, Olive oil, Coconut oil and Beeswax. The Shea butter softens and hydrates the skin, and protects the skin from damage to the environment. Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E which helps heal wounds. Beeswax is the ingredient that creates a protective layer on the skin and helps with elasticity. Olive oil and Coconut oil help add moisture.
